2. What is the GIT policy on plagiarism?

Plagiarism is the use of intellectual property of others without proper acknowledgment. It is a form of academic dishonesty. Honesty in writing and speaking requires a balance between using words and ideas that are part of the common domain and careful ascription of borrowed ideas and words. Much information is commonly accepted and need not be acknowledged. However, ideas and words that represent the academic achievements of others may be used only with appropriate acknowledgment. The failure to so acknowledge and the pretense that these are the author's own words or ideas is plagiarism. The most obvious form of plagiarism is the direct quotation of words without quotation marks, parenthetical ascription, footnote, or endnote. Less obvious forms of plagiarism consist of paraphrases of another's words and the use of an opinion with no reference to the source.

Standards of scholarship at GIT forbid plagiarism. Plagiarism is literary theft, will be viewed as a serious infraction involving academic dishonesty, and will be dealt with according to measures determined by the GIT. Plagiarism will result in a failing grade for the assignment and may well result in a failing grade for the entire course.

A grade of F is given when the quality of the work in a course clearly falls below the passing standard. An F remains permanently on the transcript and is calculated in the grade-point average as 0.00.    Regular attendance in classes is expected. Professors may consider attendance when calculating grades for courses.

4. Some points concerning clothing .....

1. Students will be able to use a local laundromat in order to wash their clothes.  However, to reduce the number of visits to the laundromat, you may want to bring 3-4 casual outfits (for classroom time) as well as your Sunday clothes.
2.  Our students from the south may find the air conditioning that is normal in the US a bit cold.  Therefore, please bring a sweater or light jacket that you can wear when you are in air conditioning. Annette's southern students find that sometimes a light scarf is appreciated to keep the air from blowing on your neck.
